dyeing in melbourne

On my recent trip down south, I had the chance to catch up with a friend for some dyeing with the Handweavers and Spinners Guild of Victoria in Melbourne. Each month, the dye group meets to try out a new dye and November was Indigo month.

I had already dyed with Indigo a couple of times before - with the girls from Shibori - and I love the beautiful textured colour this dye produces. I took along some beautiful handspun Portuguese wool and a couple of second-hand vintage doilies to throw in the dye pot and I was really pleased with the results. A lovely lady had also brought along some Hibiscus flowers, so we had an extra dye pot going, which produced the beautiful chartreuse-coloured samples you can see in the pictures above.

All the ladies were so welcoming and encouraging! If you're in Melbourne, I really recommend heading along to a dye session. Or if you're in Sydney, check out the Spinners and Weavers Guild which meets monthly in Burwood.

gunnamatta beach, mornington

I took a little road trip down to Victoria a couple of weeks ago, and found this beautiful beach while I was there.

I had just been visiting a great CSA farm on the Mornington Peninsula (that I'll be interning at next year, huzzah!), and I was feeling generally wonderful and inspired, so I decided to go on a little adventure to the beaches in the area.

I strolled along the shoreline, snapped a bunch of photos and sat in the sand - feeling super grateful for where I was and where I've ended up.

I can't wait to spend some more time in this beautiful place next year.

When I started this blog, I made a little promise to myself that I would only post photos taken on my Dad's old analog cameras. There were a few little things that needed fixing on the cameras... but now these cameras are as good as new!
So long light leaks and weirdo inconsistencies!

I've taken a heap of photos lately, so there'll be loads more up on the blog soon.

A few photos from a recent random weaving workshop in the Blue Mountains with Harriet Goodall. This was such an amazing day!  I've admired Harriet's work for a little while now - I first came across Harriet when I saw her wedding photos featured on a photography blog... I was completely blown away by a dress that she had made using the eco-print technique.. then I found out about her weaving, and was even more inspired by her beautiful woven creations!

Things have been a little quiet around here lately, and I've been feeling so busy with other things that I've hardly had any time for dyeing/crafting of my own.

But it looks like I'll have some more time over the next couple of weeks to collect some plants and dye some creations so I'll be sure to post some more photos once I do!

In the meantime, these are a few photos from a recent trip to Reunion Island. I went for a music festival/an adventure/to celebrate my birthday with a friend this past June, and I'm hoping this becomes an annual pilgrimage...

Las cosas han sido un poco más tranquilo por aquí últimamente, y me he sentido tan ocupada con otras cosas que casi no he tenido tiempo para teñir / elaboración propia.

Pero parece que voy a tener algo más de tiempo en el próximo par de semanas para recoger algunas plantas y teñir algunas creaciones así que voy a estar seguro para subir algunas fotos más, una vez que lo hago!

Mientras tanto, estas son algunas fotos de un reciente viaje a la isla de Reunión. Fui a un festival de música / aventura / para celebrar mi cumpleaños con un amigo en junio pasado, y espero que esto se convierte en una peregrinación anual ...

I had this wonderful idea in mind - I would take some dyeing samples that I had made around to my 

friend's house, and we would have a little photo shoot. The sky was blue when I arrived at his home, so we started shooting straight away. As it turned out, we were just in time - as soon as we put our cameras down, the clouds began to roll in.

(I'm loving this new adventure with film, but I think I probably should have taken some digital shots too - I don't really feel these shots do much justice to the eucalyptus and acacia dyes I was trying to capture..)

Tuve esta maravillosa idea - he querido tomar algunos muestras de teñido que había hecho a la casa de un amigo, y tendríamos un mini foto shoot. El cielo estaba azul cuando llegue a su hogar, asi que empezamos a tomar fotos inmediatamente. Resulto que estábamos justo a tiempo - tan pronto como hemos terminado, las nubes empezaron a aparecer.

(Me encanta mucho esta nueva aventura con película, pero pienso que debería haber tomado fotos digitales también - no siento que estas fotos hacen a mucha justicia a los tintes de eucalipto y acacia que estaba tratando de capturar..)

I went for a walk to the rocks at the end of the beach while my friends stayed behind to build sand animals (marsupials, mostly). I had pulled my 400 ISO film to 100 to slow exposure, and overexpose the film.. but uh, it turns out that only works for black and white film! Whoops!

Despite the light leaks, I really like how some of these have turned out - especially the colours and tones in the last picture.

Algunos fotos mas de Daley's Point.

Fui a dar un paseo a las rocas en el extremo de la playa mientras mis amigos quedaron para construir animales de arena (marsupiales, principalmente). Había tirado mi película ISO 400 a 100 para reducir la exposición y sobreexponer la película, pero eh, resulta que solo funciona para película en blanco y negro! Huy!

A pesar de las fugas de luz, me gusta mucho la forma en que algunos de estos han resultado - especialmente los colores y tonos en la ultima foto.
